The Japanese tea ceremony (chadō or "the way of tea"] is a Japanese tradition steeped in culture and history. While at Wellspring, you'll enjoy the hospitality of a Japanese Tea Master in a mindful atmosphere distinct from the fast pace of everyday life as you learn about the ceremonial way of preparing and drinking Japanese green tea.

Every step of the Japanese Green Tea ceremony carries a profound meaning. During each session, our Tea Master, trained in the Dai Nihon Chado Gakkai (Japan Association of the Tea Ceremony) tradition, will share the meaning behind the exact positioning of tea utensils and each and every movement during the preparation, serving and drinking of tea. Similar to many other disciplines in Japan, the specifics of the ceremony change with the seasons, including the choice of tea bowl, and the sweets served to counteract the bitterness of matcha.
